TIPS - TIPS 3

Dechroming - A couple of tips have come along for this page , so here goes.
1.Soak your chrome parts in house hold bleach until the color of the model shows thru. Once this has happened then use some dish soap and a small brush (toothbrush) and scrub the rest of the chrome away.
2.Another one that came though was to use 409 cleaner. The only problem that I had with this is that I wasn't given a time limit or what the chrome pieces where to look like.
3 Use Benchleys' Bleche White for removing chrome from parts. Soak plated parts in this blue stuff for about a half hour and the chrome just disappears. Be careful and use latex or rubber gloves because it can irritate the skin. You can buy it at the Automotive section of must department stores. Actually, its used to clean white wall tires.
4 I read your tip on de-chroming,the best and fastest way I found was, pure straight ammonia.Stand away from the fumes while pouring into a container, preferably,an old peanut butter container with a screw top lid.Drop the parts to be dechromed into the solvent, and screw on the lid.Let set for approx.20-30 minutes. Before opening the container shake vigorously.Remove the parts, and take notice of the very shiney finish underneath the chrome.
5 For dechroming, try using nail polish remover, not the 100% acetone but regular old nail polish. Not only will it remove the chrome but it will also remove the varnish coating ( the very shiney coating ) paint doesn't stick very well to this varnish.
Change Chrome Color-1.If you like gold plated parts instead of chrome get some yellow clothing dye. Put the dye in a small bowl with water cover and put in the microwave until its hot (but not hot enough to melt the plastic)dip your parts in and leave them for awhile.
Tinting Windows-
1.It has been suggested for those of us who would like to tint their windows to use regular window tint that you buy at the parts store. The trick is not to put any water on the glue as the instructions say to. The glue that is on the paper is plenty to make it adhere to the glass. The problem with the water is that it activates the glues chemicals and then that same glue will eat away your window. Oh yeah also use a small flat object to smooth out the window film so that you don't have any air bubbles in your tinting job.
 2. Paint the inside of your windows with flat black paint or a flat black wash, just remember to paint the inside of the windows.
Painting Lumps- I have been informed by others about how to remove the lumps on the paint.
1.Take one of your wifes or mothers old tupperware bowl and after spray painting the model put it in the bowl to allow it to cure. This will keep any dust that is floating around not to adhere to the body of the car.
2.Now for those of us who's wife's or mothers won't allow us to have the t upper ware bowl, take a box and flip it upside down with about a 1 to 2 inch gap at the bottom so that air can circulate. This will also keep the dust particle's off of our kits.
3.For those of you who just can't what a couple of days try this drying technique. You can dry in 2 or 3 hours with a food dehydrator you have to trim the racks but it is well worth the time
